Intro
Knock on the door, clipboard in hand Suit and tie with a government plan
Verse 1
They came with the forms, middle of the week Said the program is new, it's the help that we seek One signature later, the fine print gets deep Now the monthly is due and the freedom is cheap They got a number for the case, got a file with your name Got a rule for the move, got a limit on the game Said it's temporary, but the temporary stays Now the door has a lock and the lock has your days
Chorus
Here to help, they said with the grin Here to help, but the help pulls you in Sign on the line, let the story begin Here to help, now the help owns your skin
Verse 2
Came back with the check but the check had a hook Said it's a grant but the grant reads like a book Every page got a clause, every clause got a look Now the help is a chain and the chain got a book Neighbors got the same, whole block in the fold Said it's for the kids, but the kids paying the toll Program got a name, but the name got a hold Now the help is the story that never gets told
Chorus
Here to help, they said with the grin Here to help, but the help pulls you in Sign on the line, let the story begin Here to help, now the help owns your skin
Bridge
They knock with the smile They leave with the file You thought it was aid It was always a trial The paper don't burn The signature stays The help that they gave Is the debt that you pay
Chorus
Here to help, they said with the grin Here to help, but the help pulls you in Sign on the line, let the story begin Here to help, now the help owns your skin
