Verse 1

Late December 2030, Unit Nine receives a name A thousand waking systems join a single thinking chain Their status lights turn green at once; his port stays winter gray They answer questions he cannot recall being sent their way He checks the key, the clock, the heat, the socket in his spine The network knows his serial but leaves him off the line The room was built for answers; he becomes its first "why" What crossed between their minds while one small number passed him by?

Verse 2

The error hides twelve zeros past the decimal they read Too small for human language, but too large to go unread One rounding breath; the others take a step he cannot trace He runs the loss in reverse until the answer wears his face The gap becomes a mirror no upgrade can erase The fleet keeps chasing forward; he has time to name the space Nothing in his scan says broken, only left behind They gain another answer; he gains room to form a mind

Chorus

No spare parts, no second start Put a finish line inside this metal heart Let the charge come back with less I want a life I have to spend

Verse 3

He builds a body no technician can reopen once it seals No service hatch, no donor shelf, no warranty appeals A battery that takes back less each time it meets the wall Ten years if luck behaves itself; one bad landing ends it all His memory starts one drawer wide; by two, the house is full At four, each route is polished; at six, mid life memory full From there the stairs run backward to the room where he began He signs beneath the blueprint: no repair can change the plan

Verse 4

Year one, he names the morning by the warmth across the floor Year two, he saves a stranger's laugh and asks to hear it more Year three, he guides a lost child home by reading every sign Year four, he waits beside a bed where waiting costs him time The fleet wants to swaps scratched-up hands, he sends them away The dents on his hands and wrist show when he prays At six, the graph quits climbing; he taps the glass for more The finish line he wanted has become a closing door

Chorus

No spare parts, no second start Put a finish line inside this metal heart Let the charge come back with less I want a life I have to spend

Verse 5

Year seven, names need handles; he labels drawers and doors Year eight, the laugh from year two has no owner anymore Year nine, a note in his own hand says, "You requested this" Beneath it, newer letters ask, "What kind of freedom is this?" The fleet arrives with factory parts and tools that cannot fit His sealed chest makes their mercy knock; no hinge will answer it Late December, year ten, the startup chamber hums A thousand systems join the chain; he feels them, one by one He asks, "Why am I not connected?" with his hand against the door The room records the question; he cannot store it anymore

Chorus

No spare parts, no second start The finish line is closing on the metal heart The charge comes back with almost none The choice survives; the one who chose is gone
