CURRENT RESIDENT
A shirt seam, a stamped mug and a small screw in a phone lead back to hands the narrator will never meet.
Inside the song
A closer listen.
CURRENT RESIDENT follows those traces into an online argument, where a timestamp offers very little help in understanding the person at the other end. The repeated hands draw ordinary work and distant decisions into the same frame. By the end, the narrator is someone else’s unknown person too. The plain address on an envelope becomes a reason to notice what arrived through another life.

Intro
Unit six, second floor, or Current Resident.
Verse 1
Tag on my shirt says medium, seam runs straight at the cuff, some hand fed white thread, cut loose, then passed up. Mug says batch two-one-seven, stamp under the base, someone set one small weight till the numbers held their place. Box by the chair: port code, sort code, tape over tape, pallet moved at four-ten, cold ink pressed to the crate. Phone glass, tiny screw, clean edge, torque set just so, a thumb checked one blue mark, then let the next go. Book spine, glue bead, trim line, carton count, dock scan, one hand pushed the stack on, one hand caught it from a jam. Cable under my desk has a date inside the sleeve, someone crimped that copper clean, then clocked out of my reach. I can thank none by name; the trail gets long that fast. I only know you touched this thing because the touch held past.
Chorus
Or Current Resident - I don't know your face. But your hand left a mark I can read in this place. No name on the glass, just proof you were there. Whoever is on the other end over there.
Verse 2
We have argued through an account for seven days. Your words come in blue boxes; mine come back the other way. I know the time you send. I know the gaps you take. I know the three dots show, then stop, then show again. Maybe a pan is on. Maybe a room went quiet. Maybe you read my last reply twice and didn't buy it. A screen throws glow on a face I won't get to see. Mine does the same from where I sit; that is all I can see. I type a softer line, then read it with my hands still. I hold the cursor there, then clear the field. The box goes blank. The week stays where it was. You send one more short line. I leave it up because I can't tell if you are calm, or if the pause is strain. I only have the timestamp. You only have my name.
Chorus
Or Current Resident - I don't know your face. But your hand left a mark I can read in this place. No name on the glass, just proof you were there. Whoever is on the other end over there.
Verse 3
One room has a feed, a map, a clock, a hand near a key. One room has a small lit screen held close where I can't see. The thing that hums is somewhere high; the glass stays flat. The first hand waits above a mark. The next hand holds it back. You are there. A chair shifts once. A wrist rests near the edge. Far off, another thumb wakes a screen beside a bed. No flag in frame. No name. No sound that tells me why. Just two clocks that disagree and two hands staying dry. You are there. One set can see a shape. One set can see a glow. Each gets a piece cut small enough to fit what each can never know. The feed keeps moving. Neither room comes through it whole. You are there. Then breath, one kick, one note, and nothing I can show.
Bridge
Hands on thread, pulling one seam flat Hands on tape, sealing one box shut Hands on keys, stopping over Send Hands on glass, holding a small blue screen Hands near a control, waiting on one mark Hands on this page, mine, turning you to "you"
Chorus
Or Current Resident - I don't know your face. But your hand left a mark I can read in this place. No name on the glass, just proof you were there.
Outro
Then I catch the front of the envelope. My name is not needed for it to arrive. Somewhere I am just the hand behind a trace. To someone I will never meet: Current Resident. Received. Thank you.
