Intro

Three short beeps. Then the screen went blue. Five rooms went live. No one said who.

Verse 1

Mother took the kitchen like a desk at ten. "We have red lights near the house again." One mug by the sink. One chair pushed back. "No cause has been named. We will stay with that." She read the hall clock, then looked off-screen. White coats crossed where the wall should be. "A change may come." Her hands held flat. The kettle screamed. She did not report that.

This is not a test. We just kept calling it one.

Verse 2

Father had the hall and the play-by-play. "Two at the door, now they clear the way." "Clock keeps on. Home side needs a break." He praised each breath like a shot she made. "Strong move there. She is back on her feet." But the wheels hit wood under his last beat. He said, "Good fight," to a room with no crowd. Then called a time-out when the straps came out.

Verse 3

The child went live from beneath the stairs. "A red truck ate Grandma's rocking chair." "The moon-men came with a silver bed." "They put a small blue crown on her head." "She gets one ride, then she comes right back." He drew that road in a yellow crayon track. The page had home at both ends of the line. No one changed it. They just said, "Looks fine."

This is not a test. We just kept calling it one. So the small hands could rest, so the big hands could run. Five rooms found five ways not to say what had come.

Verse 4

The teen took the stairs with a phone held high. "Pressure fell fast on the west room side." "There is a hard front parked by the door." "Chance she comes back? They don't say no more." The map on the screen showed one red ring. Her thumb hit SEND, then erased the thing. "Take cover now." She meant, "Come sit near." The forecast was right. It just missed the fear.

Not... coming... Home... say it... The hiss made one line from five safe shows.

Verse 5

Grandmother spoke from the west room bed. "Dear hearts, do not mourn what is not gone yet." "Call this a test if it gets you through. Call it a door if that helps you move." Her hand found the dial. The house lost sound. "But come to this room while I am still around." Mother left the desk. Father dropped the score. The child crossed his road. The teen left the storm. Five doors opened. No one chose a name. The code got them there. The code came late.
