Intro

December twenty-fifth, different every year What you give and what you get, depends on where you are Some of us still waiting, some of us the reason Let me break it down, welcome to the gift season

Verse 1

Back when I was seven, Christmas Eve I couldn't sleep Heard my mama wrapping presents, thought that Santa was a thief Woke up to a bike with a bow, tears running down my face Didn't know she worked three jobs just to watch me feel that way Then I grew a little older, had my first girl by sixteen Minimum wage couldn't cover what I wanted her to see So I made a card by hand, wrote my heart out on the page She still got that letter framed, some gifts don't need a price displayed

Chorus

Verse 2

Now I got a daughter, she don't know about the bills Lights got cut off Tuesday, but her tree still got the thrills Pride tried to stop me from the layaway at Walmart But watching her unwrap that doll? Worth every broken part First year I was Santa, hit different when you know That magic you believed in? You're the one that runs the show Hid the gifts in the closet, set the alarm for three Saw my reflection in my daughter, same face I used to be

Bridge

Somewhere between getting and giving, you grow The price tag means nothing when love's what you show Your hands might be empty, your heart overflowing That's when you realize what Christmas is for knowing

Chorus

Verse 3

Now I'm finally stable, got a little something saved But the best gift this December? Flying mama on a plane She ain't never seen the ocean, worked her whole life at that school Handed her that envelope, watched her break every rule She cried like I cried for that bike back in 93 Full circle, now I understand what she was planting in me The receiving was a lesson, the giving is the test And blessing those who blessed you? That's when Christmas hits the best

Bridge

Wherever you are on this map tonight Whether giving or getting, you're doing it right The struggle is a season, it won't last forever And love is the gift that keeps it together

Chorus

Gift season, gift season, where you at in the cycle? Receiving or believing, or becoming someone's idol? Gift season, gift season, find yourself in the story The blessing or the blessed, either way it's God's glory Gift season, gift season, where you at in the cycle? Receiving or believing, or becoming someone's idol? Gift season, gift season, find yourself in the story The blessing or the blessed, either way it's God's glory

Outro

From the tree in the project to the one in the mansion Every present tells a story of someone taking a chance and Giving what they got, even when they got nothing Gift season... that's what makes it something
