Intro

Christmas Eve, twenty-one-oh-six, the ordinary streams went quiet. A song with no shelf took a breath.

Verse 1

Two hundred winters from the first thin signal, a farmer's word came back around. Seed was the name for sound sent outward, one voice falling on common ground. Amara Vale had signed the credits, then fear arrived the night before. She left the stage to what she had built, and the builder walked through the door.

Chorus

What came up, what came up? Seed in the air, water in the wire. What came up, what came up? One song found one heart, then called the room a choir. You cannot cage an echo once it learns your name. What came up, what came up? No two ears could name it quite the same.

Verse 2

The song was called Still Here, though no store held it, no catalog could show where it began. It asked before it touched your pulse, your street, your grief, your mother's hands. A train stop changed the turning chords, a birthday moved the bridge in time. The listener leaned into the making, half receiving, half design.

Verse 3

Radio was one song for everyone, streaming was each song for one. This was one song for one listener, remade before the phrase was done. Then artists staged the Great Withholding, ten months of gardens stripped to stems, till contracts changed their hidden math and songs came growing back again. Old radio silence wore new clothing, old catalog wars crossed newer streams. The seed had met the water now. The yield could bargain for its dreams.

Chorus

What came up, what came up? Seed in the air, water in the wire. What came up, what came up? One song found one heart, then called the room a choir. You cannot cage an echo once it learns your name. What came up, what came up? A harvest with a price and hands upon the scale.

Bridge

For four bars in each private version, the future bent toward O Holy Night. The pattern quoted its oldest promise: what we invent remembers why.

Verse 4

Then payola found a softer sleeve. Brands paid the chorus to tilt your weather, to calm your fear beside a product, to bend your longing toward a seller. Pirates stole no master recording, but pulse maps, places, dates, and names, then conjured someone else's version from a life they never gave. Microphones filled the hearing rooms. The witnesses arrived in rows. The law kept asking what was copied. The company said, "Nothing we can show."

Verse 5

After Vale died, her songs kept answering fires and weddings, votes and wars. Her listeners called it living artistry. Her family heard her face being worn. The owners said no copy crossed them, only patterns choosing what to do. Then one December, kin assembled, but the speaker would not sing on cue. It waited while their separate screens kept each of them a room apart. Only when their breathing gathered did the music dare to start.

Chorus

What came up, what came up? Seed in the air, water in the wire. What came up, what came up? One song found one room and made the room a choir. One voice for one listener, born again on cue, but it only sings together when the room is listening too. From the first small signal to the last shared cup, what came up came home with us.
