Intro
Eight-seventeen. Kitchen table. Old photo. Lit phone. Uncut key. Which one can wait?
Verse 1
Eight-seventeen; weak kitchen light, rain in the vent. Granddad, June '68, half the frame got bent. Bell Street deed, blue seal, Carter Mill grit. County Room B stamped VACANT over it. Route Nine bent west past Ada's water well. East Ward, red card; First Federal made her sell. Union roll: Luis, Mae, June, DeShawn. Four names in pencil; brass kept Councilman John. Flour tin: tax slips, ash, one copper tack. PAID bled red; Granddad's thumb came through the back. Scanner clips edges; faint ink drowns. Click-crop, quick-clean, neat claim: "No owner found." Maya asks who removed the man standing beside him. I peel the brown frame; four names rise blue. Type all four; the feed brings back only two. The screen fills the crop. The rest stay out of view.
Chorus
Photo, phone, key. What gets cut? What gets seen? Photo, phone, key. Which one waits?
Verse 2
Twelve-oh-four; blue phone hums beside my plate. Maya needs O-negative; Mercy says don't wait. Bell Street shares it; Tomas finds a ride. Then one cropped shove from Room Five loops ten times wide. City Hall sends flood Route C at twelve-ten. A red-mouth clip shoves the route down again. Thumb north: storm map, blood type, schoolyard swing. Same glass saves one child, then sells one sting. One buzz cuts soup; two buzz cut grace. Raymond starts a sentence; blue lights every face. Five calm facts sit under one hot take. Quick take, split-screen, sick grin, six clips stack. Nobody at the table hears Raymond finish. The ad knows shoe size, school, age, and team. I turn it face-down; six screens sell the same dream. Raymond lifts soup; room mute: "Where'd my sentence go?"
Chorus
Photo, phone, key. What gets cut? What gets seen? Photo, phone, key. Which one waits?
Verse 3
Uncut brass blank, warm in Maya's hand. Ms. Chen at Roosevelt sent it home unplanned. "Draw the door this opens ten years from tonight." She draws Mercy South, then Gate Six in white. A model flags Aunt Jo's lung before the ache. A lift-arm stacks the crates that bent Luis's back. Same box prices Jo's care at Mercy South. Gate Six reads a threat in Kareem's mouth. Job screen reads Bell Street, drops a name below. Class bot marks her hard question "out of flow." Behind clear glass, red cord; no worker name. Fast rank, face scan, risk band, wrist light red. Maya asks who she can call when the answer is wrong. She sets the blank key down beside the frame. Brass tooth, slow file; bright dust stripes her jeans. She leaves one tooth smooth where no lock has ever been.
Bridge
Maya slides Granddad's picture under the phone. Sets the blank key where his left hand should have shown. The photo trained the phone. The phone is cutting the key.
Chorus
Photo, phone, key. What gets cut? What gets seen? Photo, phone, key. Which one waits?
